Nair Spa Clay Wax with Mineral-Rich Clay, Mango and Acai Berry

One of the things that captured my attention whilst I was walking in Watsons was the Nair Spa Clay Wax with Mineral-Rich Clay, Mango and Acai Berry.  I mean, wax is wax, but a clay wax?  Hm, I was intrigued.  Knowing myself, I couldn't resist and decided to buy it to try.

It comes with 20 Clay Wax strips and 2 aftercare wipes.  It is slightly pricier than normal, at RM23.90 for a box.  However, it is of course, much cheaper than going to a waxing bar (which ranges from RM30 to RM70 depending on location), given its use per box.
Here's the description that they included for Nair Spa Clay Wax:

I like that Nair will include a slip of information of how to use and what to look out for in their package.  Here's a view of it:

For those of you who needed to look at the ingredients and etc:
This is how each pieces look:

It comes in a set of 2.  I would suggest to use 2 at each time and not leave one behind as I find that it doesn't work that well in subsequent uses.

I like the fact that the colour looks like clay.  It does reinforce the idea that it is a clay wax.
To use this, one needs to warm up the strips before applying it onto the designated area.  For me, it's my lower legs.  What I do is I will rub both pieces with my hands until it's warm before separating the two strips.  After that, I will tend apply one piece onto the area where I want to wax, rubbing it in and making sure that it's sticking to my skin.  I like the fact that after I remove it quickly from my skin, it doesn't leave a sticky residue on my legs (some waxes are just sticky).  However, I do find that its grip on hair is not very good, and that may be caused by the fact that it isn't as sticky as other waxes.  This causes me to go back to the same area more than 2 times in order to ensure that the hairs are removed.  It's not a good thing to do because it reduces the usability of each pieces of the strips.  Usually, I can use 2 strips per leg but with this, I used up to 3 strips per leg.  After that, I still had to use my tweezer (it's much faster) to remove those hairs that weren't waxed.

Although it doesn't leave my skin feeling sticky after use, I do find it a little of a disappointment due to its lack of good function as a wax.  I don't think I'll buy it again for future use.

DIY Wax Strips that Spells Disaster

I have a tendency to do my own waxing as I find that it isn't that hard and sometimes, I don't have time to make an appointment to get it done by professionals.  So, it's no surprise when my wax strips were running low, I went to grab some to use.  As I was browsing around, I saw that there's one type that I've not tried before; Veet Wax strips with Shea Butter and Berry.  Me being me, I went ahead and grab it cause, I mean, hey, it's a brand that I've always been buying on and off, how wrong could it get, right?  Oh boy, how wrong was I on this account.

When I opened it, the strips looks fine and dandy.  It's looks so neat and pink on its own, plus it smells of berry.   A nice change to those sticky wax that I used last time (I can't remember if they smell though). Well, that's where are its niceties ends.

The minute I split the strips apart, I have an odd feeling over it.  It's hard! I mean, most wax aren't that hard, not the type that I am familiar with anyway.  Thinking it wasn't anything, I applied it and wax away.  Tending to use the strips 2 to 3 times, I stick it onto my leg again and tried to wax again.  Failure is the word.  It doesn't work, it barely able to remove any hair the second time round.  Anyhow, I continue to give it a try.

The horror/ disaster begun when I used the 2nd pair of strips.  When I try to remove it, the whole wax STUCK onto my skin and it got removed from its strip.  Man, that continued for like 4 pairs of the strips.  I could only use them twice and some only once!  It is just terrible.

There was never once were I could use the wax strips properly and out of the 20 strips, I used 12 of them @.@

This is a definite no buy for me.  I was really turned off and appalled by the fact that it's stated as stronger grip on the box.  Disaster... disaster...A definite no to rebuying this.

MySolutions Waxing Service

I am one that do frequent to waxing bars.  After my second visit to CN Beauty, I was a little apprehensive about making a purchase of those coupons.  Nonetheless, a deal came up and I had a RM5 token to use up and I thought, why not?  I'm hoping the last time was a one off thing and that it won't be burning in my head for too long.  And so I bought the MySolutions Waxing Service for RM16 (ori price was RM21, but like I said, I have a RM5 token from Groupon and had decided to use it up).

I'd have to say that the service provided is worth a whole lot more as compared to the price that I've paid.  Let me share that experience with you.

When I reached, I was asked to fill up a form, the usual forms to record down certain information.  After that, something unexpected happens.  I thought I was being led to the room, however, I was led to a small waiting area and was given a feet soak.  After a long day at work, I'd have to say that it was heavenly.  I receive another surprise too when I was given a small bag (like ricebag), heated at the microwave to put over my shoulders.  It totally eased the tension at my shoulders.  After about 15 minutes or so, I was then led to a separate room where the waxing take place.

I'd have to say though, that it felt intimidating at first.  Why?  Well, there are 3 other persons in the room who assists me on the waxing process.  This is definitely a first for me.  I'd have to say that they work rather efficiently because 1 was applying the wax on both legs whilst the other two are station next to each side of my legs.  Everytime the wax is applied, they will start their "duty", so to speak.  They are quick, efficient yet at the same time, very systematic too.  They did a very good job in ensuring that the waxing process was as painless as possible and as quick too.

The regular price per waxing is at RM67.  It is rather pricey and it will be something that I might indulge in once a while since the service provided is rather good.  Definitely an experience, and a place to be if you want the waxing to be done quickly and efficiently as well.

CN Beauty: Waxing Session

There was a recent promotion by Groupsmore on waxing and because I am an avid (not sure if I should be using this word though!! haha) waxer, I couldn't resist such a good deal!
(photo taken from Groupsmore webpage)

As you could see from the description below, the waxing only costs RM19.  This is quite a fair bargain for if you are a frequent visitor to waxing salons.  CN Beauty is an international company that was established back in 1997.  They have a total of 30 branches all over Malaysia.  For this promotion, I figured it was only limited to Klang Valley, and there are 12 locations that was given for us to choose during our purchase of the voucher.  I selected the TTDI branch as it is the nearest to me.

I quite like the frontdesk of the branch in TTDI.  It gives you a sense of peace and relaxation.  It uses a lot of wood colour in its decor and overall concept so I guess that helps in relaxation.  I was served a cup of tea as I got there.  However, I didn't get to drink it as I was busy filling up the form.  Once I was done, I was actually asked if we want to get started.  I quite like the attentiveness of the therapist who served me, Kelly, as she actually make a point to inquire if I would want to go to the ladies before we get started.  This is quite rare thing, if you are a frequent visitor to salons.

However, when I got to the room, it felt, old.  I wasn't entirely that comfortable with the room.  Partly because the light was too bright and all.  I was asked to lie down on the bed without a change of pants.  A few that I've been to required me to change into a bit of cloth for ease of waxing.  Kelly however, asked me to fold up my pants.  I was slightly taken aback as I presume that since this is a full scale beauty centre, they would ask me to change into something more comfortable.  Nonetheless I continue.  As I was lying there, I was quite irritated by the light of the room.  Why?  Because the bed I was in placed me in a position where I was directly under the light.  So, I was practically staring into the light.  It's quite harsh and tires my eyes quite a fair me.  That aside, the room uses a normal fan.  I don't mind that it's a fan, but the fan was also directly blowing to my face.  Now, that I mind because I'm wearing contact lens, and the fan was drying them out.  Still, I persisted and did not comment about it.

Now, come to the waxing part.  I like Kelly.  I like how attentive she is in making sure that she covers the whole of my lower legs and making sure that it's done properly.  She actually alerts me every step of the way, keeping me inform what she is going to do.  If there's a part where she wants to run it through a few more times to ensure all the hair are out, she will alert me and explain why.  I like that.  At least I know what she is doing.  The wax is also not uncomfortable and was at the right heat.  The overall experience took us about 40 minutes.  It is usually done faster, but I guess her attentiveness and her meticulousness made a difference and took up the time.

After the waxing was done, Kelly used baby lotion oil on my legs, explaining that it will help to remove the sticky feeling.  She took the time to slowly massage my legs and making sure she covers every part.  She then follow up with a body lotion.  Most of other places that I went to uses either the oil or lotion, but not both.  So it's a pleasant surprised because she took the time to massage my legs during both application.  I was feeling blissful then.

Once done, I was ushered out to the hall whilst she filled up a receipt for me.  During then too, they've changed my glass of hot tea to a different one.  It was warm and soothing.  Kelly explained that the tea is actually Garninie tea.  It helps in detoxification.  Explanation, but no hard selling.  She didn't even tell me the price.  Now that's quite rare because we all know most of the beauty saloons will try to hardsell their services and products to you.  It is only when I inquire further that Kelly did share that the company is having certain promotions and all.

Overall, it was a good experience, albeit the minor design of the place.  If you are looking to go and not mind so much of the ambience, I'm told that CN Beauty (all across their salons) are having a promotion now.  All waxing procedures are at 50% discount.

Update as at April 2011: I had a bad experience the second time I was there.  I don't remember the name of the lady who served me, but it seems that she does not have as good experience as Kelly did.  The wax were very hot every time it rolled on me.  The lady just said, this is the standard heat.  I truly doubt so because the waxing bars I've been to has always been able to adjust the temperature if I were to state it's hot.  It does not help when the cover of the waxing roll came loose and lo and behold, the wax all came down onto my legs!  Already feeling the heat, imagine having all of these wax poured onto my legs.  It was truly a disaster.  However, I knew it was an accident and thus, refrained myself from telling the lady off.  She truly looked remorse and scared.  Nonetheless, this means I am not going to this place again.  Most likely I will opt for a different branch should there be such promotions that arise in the future.

Facial Waxing ~ Miss Wax Away

Do you do waxing?  I find that waxing my upper lips helps to ensure that it looks clean and tidy, so I do it every so often, or whenever I do travel for a holiday =)

The brand that I use is Miss Wax Away by ElegantTouch.  I find that it is handy to use and it is quite good in removing the hair from my upper lips.  The one I use is the Mini Wax Strip range, with a total of 20 easy to use; formulate for sensitive skin.  Well, I always believe that the skin on our face is delicate and thus, I use this range.

Well, if it's your first time, I guess the pain's there, but after a while you do get used to it.  However, do take note that you cannot re-wax on one spot too many times because this will cause your skin to be reddish.  Worse still, it may injure your face!  Main thing is to ensure minimal waxing time on one spot, and it helps if you ensure that your skin is taunt.  You'll get a hang of it when you do it a few times.

What I love about this is:

1. Simple to use
It is as simple as peeling it and sticking it to your face!  What more can you ask for?

2. Clean
It's not like those messy hot wax whereby you need to heat it up, and may cause your fingers to be sticky.  Worse is when droplets of it falls on your table or even the floor. Urgh, hate the idea of needing to find ways to clean up the after waxing mess.  Trust me, it's no fun!

3. Handy
These mini strips are small enough to the point where you can bring it around with you and it continues to be discreet in your bag!  What's more, each of the strips are sticking to each other.  So you would only need to bring with you two strips rather than the whole box.  You can also keep it nicely inside your make up bag without worrying whether it will mess things up in your bag.
